Check-in

  • Various reading materials are being routed/distributed amongst the Committee members.

  • Comments about the draft statements were discussed.

  • A Town Meeting with the ICNE, Spokane, Tri-Cities and Vancouver locations will be held, via teleconference, on Wednesday, May 1 at 8:30 AM. A copy of the videotape from the main campus Town Meeting will be sent to each of these locations.

Meeting minutes

Minutes of the April 17 meeting were approved as distributed.

Town Meeting

The meeting will be open for comments on all three draft documents (values, mission and vision). MMS will distribute copies of the main-campus meeting videotape to non-Pullman locations later today.

Arizona Conference

Jill Palmer will leave May 1 to attend the conference, Living the future: process improvement & organizational change at The University of Arizona Library (Tucson: 1-4 May 1996). She will choose sessions based on committee needs.

Where do we go from here...

  • Sample organizational models can be obtained from the University of Saskatchewan website.

  • John Webb will distribute his lengthy vision document to committee members.

  • We need to know more about Virtual WSU plans.

  • We need to know more about what people in the Libraries do...

  • The theme frequently seen in documents on the future of higher education is of a learner-based environment.

  • We need to take into account every level of staff, work loads, procedures, and priorities as we proceed.

  • Our next step may need to be information-gathering: what should the Libraries be doing from the users' perspective? What should we be doing from the perspective of the staff?
