Summary Notes

Attending: Janet Chisman, Vicki Croft, Mary Gilles (Co-Chair), Daryl Herbison, Lauren McNiece, Ingrid Mifflin, Jill Palmer, Barbara Paulson, Marilyn Von Seggern (Co-Chair), Kay Vyhnanek, Sharon Walbridge (Recorder), John Webb and Leslie Wykoff (via phone).
Absent: Rhonda Gaylord and Christy Zlatos.

Check-in
Vicki Croft reported that the library survey now has a proposed calendar which calls for it to be distributed on October 14, results analyzed in December, and a final report to the Provost by January 3. Nancy Baker, John Webb, Kay Vyhnanek and Vicki Croft are reviewing the survey questions.
A grievance has been lodged against the composition of the Planning Committee.
Meeting minutes
Minutes of the July 17 meeting were approved as distributed.
Consensus Definition
After discussion, the Committee approved use of the definition of consensus as it appears in Steven R. Rayner's book Team Traps, said definition reading as follows:

"Consensus does not mean that everyone on the team thinks the best possible decision has been reached. It does mean that no one is professionally violated by the decision and that all team members will support its implementation."
The Committee voted to operate by consensus as defined above with a show of hands indicating 9 yeas, no nays and two abstentions. If consensus cannot be reached, the Committee could go to a "Supreme Court" model where majority and dissenting opinions could be offered.
Information Sessions
It was decided that a subcommittee would contact specific people about possible presentations.

Next meeting
Small group progress reports will be made, the extent of which is dependent on how far each group has gotten in its work. If any small group feels ready to present actual models, they should notify the Committee via listserv.
