Check-in

Committee members were urged to be on the look-out for relevant articles and to share them with the rest of the Committee. There is interest in obtaining a book cited in DC minutes, Transforming Higher Education. Several members had looked at the University of Saskatchewan Web Page and recommended it.

Communication

Committee members believe that there should be some communication with the rest of the Libraries' staff very soon. A message will be drafted, posted for comment, and sent by Monday. Items for inclusion will be the fact that we are now at work, the process will be open and inclusive, a list of the expected products, the Fall 1996 goal, values workshops, no hidden agenda, this is not a reorganization, we will not be inhibited by the past, and we will not operate in seclusion.

  • Kathy McGreevy will give the Committee secretarial help.

  • Committee members believe that we need to have regular open meetings with the staff, perhaps in the form of form of brown bag lunches. These regular sessions will be in addition to specific purpose meetings we may call.

  • In discussion regarding communication with the WSU community it was decided to do a Web Page. Important documents could be shared this way.

Values Workshops

The subcommittee met and proposed that we do three values workshops of 3-4 hours each for the staff not included in the February 15, 1996 workshop. They should be held outside the Libraries on March 7 or 8 and the week of March 11. After all sessions are complete, some sort of compilation of results will be done.

OCLC Visit

On February 29, a team of OCLC staff will spend the day in Pullman to discuss strategic plans and member library needs. The Planning Committee decided to meet with the team if possible.

Supervisory Support

Nancy Baker has talked with supervisors of all staff on the Planning Committee and they have agreed to support the time staff will need for Planning Committee activities.

Timeline

The Committee feels that it is too early to address timelines except that the values workshops need to happen soon as they are basic to the planning process.

Next meeting

The Planning Committee will meet on Thursday, February 29, 1996 in Owen Science & Engineering Library.
