Attending: Janet Chisman, Vicki Croft, Rhonda Gaylord, Mary Gilles (Co-Chair), Daryl Herbison, Lauren McNiece, Ingrid Mifflin, Barbara Paulson, Marilyn Von Seggern (Co-Chair), Kay Vyhnanek, Sharon Walbridge (Recorder), Leslie Wykoff (via WHETS), and Christy Zlatos.

Absent: Jill Palmer and John Webb.

Check-in

  • Committee members reported no comments from staff relative to the committee update message.

  • Lauren McNiece reported that access to the Human Resources Desk Reference computer file is available and she can either set up access on PCs or can advise on how to do it. The file includes the Washington Personnel Resources Board rules and State civil service classification and compensation plans.

  • Vicki Croft noted that the Library survey being done by the Provost's Task Force was sent out on Monday. The Co-Chairs will check with Nancy Baker to see if she will do an informational communication about the survey to library employees.

Meeting minutes

Minutes of the October 9 meeting were approved as distributed.

Strongly-held Beliefs

  • An updated version of this document reflecting discussions from October 9 was distributed. Two items were missing and will be added. Sharon Walbridge noted that she had attempted a draft fleshing out the phrases; the Co-Chairs will review the draft and distribute it to the rest of the Committee if appropriate.

  • Alternative ideas tied to specific organizational models may be presented in focus groups.

  • Focus groups will not actually vote on what is presented; the sessions are for information and for critiquing of what is presented. The purpose is to collect input from library faculty and staff.

  • The Committee has not yet decided on what to bring to the Library Director -- whether to bring one preferred organizational model or bring more than one.

  • Discussion of the working group concept was begun. These groups will facilitate communication, participation and decision-making.

Next meeting

The Committee will meet next Wednesday, October 23 to continue its discussions and work toward presentations to the staff and faculty of the Libraries.
