Meeting minutes

Minutes of the April 3 session were approved with changes to the first paragraph under "Values". A note will also be added regarding the change of the Town Meeting to Wednesday, April 24.

Town Meeting

  • The Town Meeting has been changed from Thursday, April 25 to Wednesday, April 24 from 9:30-10:30 AM.

  • Other details included -
    • Cost of refreshments will be supported by LAO.
    • A preliminary announcement of the Town Meeting will be sent via e-mail today. The announcement will explain that draft values, mission and vision statements will be distributed to all staff by April 19.
    • Janet Chisman will give a welcome and explain the format of the meeting.
    • The meeting will be in Old Holland Library, room 422 - the entire Kamiak room. A circular arrangement of chairs is desired to facilitate discussion.
Draft Statements

  • Values
A draft values statement (text and graphical depiction) was presented by Lauren McNiece and Kay Vyhnanek. Daryl Herbison will will work on the text with McNiece and Vyhnanek with the goal of sending out a revised version on the listserv by the end of this week.
  • Mission
Two draft mission statements were distributed by Daryl Herbison and Sharon Walbridge. The Committee preferred draft B and asked that it be tightened up and that something be added about the instructional role. That draft is also due out on the listserv by the end of the week.
  • Vision
A draft vision statement will be sent to the Committee via listserv in the next two days. There was discussion about how long and specific the vision statement should be. One idea that had support was to have a fairly brief statement accompanied by a more elaborate context document.

It was noted that all three draft statements -- values, mission and vision -- should serve us for some time. They should not be so specific that they would become outdated quickly.

Suggested Readings

Marilyn Von Seggern will contact Susan Jurow for suggested readings on organizational models.

Other Issues

Janet Chisman has taken the need for specific Netscape training for staff to Library Systems. Staff need to know enough to at least get to Planning Committee documents through Netscape. Not everyone has Netscape on their own computers, but all should at least have access through public machines.

Next meeting

The Planning Committee will meet on Wednesday, April 17 at 8:30 AM in the New Holland Library WHETS room.
